Chair Yoga Teacher Training

Home » Events » Omega July...

When it comes to bringing yoga into the classroom, finding the space and time to roll out 30 mats or getting down on the floor can be challenging for potential school yoga programs. But when we bring our yoga practice off the mat and into a chair, it becomes more accessible, more sustainable, and easier to integrate into any busy day.

Appropriate for yoga teachers working in schools, classroom teachers interested in incorporating yoga into the school day, and allied professionals such as counselors, psychologists and occupational therapists, this workshop explores tangible, effective ways to bring yoga into the classroom without yoga mats or any other props. Together we learn to adapt and teach a variety of yoga poses, along with breathwork, meditation, and relaxation practices for students either seated in chairs, or using chairs as a support. We experience a sample chair-based practice and explore activities to share with students, school staff, teachers, and administrators.

Along with reviewing current research linking movement-based practices to learning readiness, we also discuss implementation strategies for schools that support both student and teacher self-care and wellness.
