Foundations of Children’s Yoga: Creating Safe & Engaging Experiences

The Level One intensive provides participants with the fundamental understanding and tools needed to teach a well-rounded class that incorporates all aspects of the practice.

Time is spent introducing participants to the framework of Connect, Breathe, Move, Focus and Relax that all LFY classes are based on. Practice teaching is emphasized.

  • Understanding the brain-body-nervous system relationship and development
  • Making yoga poses accessible, safe and engaging
  • Breathwork for children
  • Introduction to mindfulness and meditation practices
  • Working with schools
  • Guiding principles for teaching classes based on a compassionate understanding of students’ needs
  • Creating physically and emotionally safe space for learning
  • Writing lesson plans
  • The ethics of teaching yoga to children

Course Hours:

           Saturday, Oct 7, 2017: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM
           Sunday, Oct 8, 2017: 9:00 AM - 7:00 PM

Note:

           Early registration price of $595 ends September 6, 2017

          Level One: February 3, 2018 
          Chair Yoga Basics: February 17, 2018  
          Level Two: March 10, 2018     
          Level Three:  April 28, 2018       


Meet Your Trainer: Abigail Wilber

Abigail is a certified yoga instructor and lead teacher for LFY. She is a certified Empowerment workshop trainer, has additional training in breath, anatomy and movement with Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Matthews, and has studied with Mindful Schools. Her true passion is to empower children and to support parents in empowering their children.  Abby has many years of experience in working with typically developing children, as well as children who have special needs. She is also featured in GoNoodle’s Empower Tools videos.

Meet Your Trainer: Mayuri Gonzalez

Mayuri Gonzalez is a nationally recognized presenter, trainer and instructor in mindfulness and children’s yoga. She has more than 25 years of experience practicing yoga and mindfulness, and provides therapeutic yoga classes to children and families as well as teaching yoga and mindfulness classes in schools and community centers. In her role as director of the School Yoga Project, Mayuri trains and mentors teachers, counselors and school support staff. She is a contributing author to Best Practices for Yoga in Schools, and a presenter for PESI, offering continuing education to educators and health care providers.
