Based on the collective wisdom and experience of 23 contributors and four reviewers, this Best Practices Guide will support your capacity to implement meaningful school-based yoga programs, with the potential to transform the educational environment and help students thrive in a wide variety of situations. This is the first book in a series of Yoga Service Best Practice Guides produced by the Yoga Service Council and Omega Institute.
The Yoga Service Council is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization formed in 2009 at the Omega Institute. Our mission is to maximize the effectiveness, sustainability, and impact of individuals and organizations working to make yoga and mindfulness practices equally accessible to all.
Jennifer Cohen Harper, Editor, is dedicated to making yoga and mindfulness practices accessible to all children. She is founder of Little Flower Yoga, and the School Yoga Project, directly serving over 3000 NYC school children a week, and many more through a network of over 500 trained teachers. Jenn is vice president of the Yoga Service Council, and author of Little Flower Yoga for Kids: A Yoga and Mindfulness Program to Help Your Child Improve Attention and Emotional Balance.
Traci Childress, Editor, is cofounder and former executive director of the Children's Community School in West Philadelphia, where mindfulness is a core component of the curriculum for children and teachers at the school. She also is creator of the Mindful Reflection Project, and offers workshops to parents, care providers, teachers, and yoga communities.
